The upper
One hide, followed all the way through.
Full-grain calf from a single tannery, cut so the grain runs with the flex of the foot. The marks it arrives with are the ones it keeps.

The welt
Stitched, not glued.
A strip of leather joins the upper to the sole at nine stitches to the inch. It is the reason this shoe can be resoled long after the tread has gone.

The last
Eleven rounds to stop changing.
Narrower through the waist and lower at the heel than the classics it descends from. Modern without announcing it.

The finish
A full day, by hand.
Sole edges burnished, waist trimmed, colour built up in thin layers. Every pair is inspected twice before it is boxed.
