The case for fewer shoes
Four pairs, chosen properly, will cover more of your year than twelve chosen badly.
Julien Roche · Design Director · 6 min read

The most common thing we hear from customers who have been with us for a few years is not that they wish they owned more. It is that they wish they had worked out sooner which four pairs they actually needed.
The four
- A clean leather sneaker for most of the week.
- A slip-on for the days that do not need laces.
- A boot that handles rain without looking like it was made for a hillside.
- One formal pair, resoleable, that you keep for a decade.

This is not an argument for austerity. It is an argument for spending the same money on fewer, better things and then wearing them until they need attention.
“A shoe that gets worn two hundred days a year will teach you more about quality than a cupboard of pairs worn twice.”
Start with the pair you would wear tomorrow. Buy it properly. Everything after that becomes an easier decision.
